This is the story of Alan Evarts, a New York wunderkind whose wife had died a few years before. He is very successful in business and has friends but has been alone for some time. He receives a gift that changes everything. It’s an expensive clock sculpture by a famous artist. His attempt to find who sent him the gift brings him new dimensions, some he has suppressed and some he has not previously experienced.

In the process, he meets Leah, a young Irish actress/singer with whom he becomes involved. With love life advice from close friends, he allows himself this romantic interest. However, this interest conflicts with the desires of the anonymous donor who has other plans.

Additional gifts provide clues but also threats, and ultimately attempts on the life of his new love. These lead to a dramatic climax, coupled with his acknowledgment that he and his Irish girlfriend both want the relationship to become permanent.

He couples his business interests with his love life in traveling to Europe to start up a European office and where his long-separated parents each live, mother in Paris and father in Venice and Marseille where his father’s engineering issues become confused with his own problems.

The action takes place in New York, Montreal, Dublin, Paris, and Marseille.
