About the Author
Originally from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Terry lives in the Houston area. He studied at the University of Oklahoma before serving two years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed aboard the destroyer USS George K. MacKenzie (DD-836), homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

After returning from active duty, he relocated to Houston, where he worked at the Alley Theatre for three years while continuing his education at the University of Houston. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1973. During this time, he met and married Camella Camarata.
Leadership, Service, and Writing
His first professional career was in telecommunications management. In 2001, he was elected to the board of directors of Tin Can Sailors, Inc., was appointed Executive Director the following year, and became president in 2023.

​For sixteen years, he wrote a newspaper column for the Waller County News-Citizen. As Executive Director of Tin Can Sailors, he also served as editor of the organization's quarterly magazine for many years and was a frequent contributor, writing more than one hundred pieces during his tenure. He served as co-editor and contributor to the two-volume book series Scurvy Dogs, Green Water, and Gunsmoke: Fifty Years in U.S. Navy Destroyers. Though now retired, he continues to contribute his writing.
